After a one-week hiatus, we're back with the Pac-12's Ultimate Player. Even a robot needs a break, every once in a while. A robot with Taylor Kelly's arm.
Here's a look at what (or who?) we would build from Week 4:
Brain: State" data-canon="Oregon Ducks" data-type="SPORTS_OBJECT_TEAM" id="shortcode0"> quarterback Sean Mannion -- Like our Ultimate Player from Week 1, Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, sometimes at the quarterback position it's what you don't do that matters most. Last year, Mannion threw a back-breaking 18 interceptions as he simply tried to do too much. He's thrown one interception in two games this year, but his 24 of 35 passing for 379 yards and three touchdowns against UCLA showed that he knew when to get the ball off, and where (see below).
Heart: Colorado quarterback Jordan Webb -- Granted, one can say that Washington State Coug'd it, as it's become commonly known. Or you can give credit to Webb for his 4-yard touchdown run to tie the game for the Buffaloes at 34 with less than 10 seconds to play. Calling Webb's number on a designed keeper took some brains on Eric Bienemy's part, some guts on coach Jon Embree's part, and most important, some heart on Webb's part. He delivered.
Nerves: Colorado kicker Will Oliver -- Oliver delivered, too. It's not as if 12 field goals were the difference in the matchup -- in fact, Oliver missed his only field-goal attempt -- but imagine the weight of the world on his shoulders after he lined up for the game-winning PAT after Webb's run. Oliver gained his composure for one kick, that's for sure.
Arm: Arizona State QB Taylor Kelly -- Kelly didn't exactly wow onlookers in fall camp, but the Sun Devils thought they had an adequate replacement for Brock Osweiler. So much for that. Kelly has been a revelation for the Sun Devils, and his 326 yards and three touchdowns were the difference in a 37-7 win over Utah. Spare Parts: Washington State QB Connor Halliday -- Halliday has taken control of the Cougars offense in a big way. Four touchdowns in back-to-back weeks, and this week he hit the 400-yard mark, just barely, with 401 against the Buffaloes.
Hands: Oregon defensive backs Ifo Ekpre-Olomu/Troy Hill -- Normally this award goes to Oregon's offensive stars, and not seeing Kenjon Barner and De'Anthony Thomas on this list is admittedly weird. But the Ducks defense drove the engine in a 49-0 win over Arizona, with Ekpre-Olomu and Hill each returning interceptions for touchdowns. Spare Parts: UCLA WR Shaquelle Evans -- Evans was having a relatively quiet year before exploding on Saturday for 148 yards on six receptions with a touchdown.
Legs: USC RBs Silas Redd/Curtis McNeal -- Oh, hello there, USC running game. The Trojans' ground game rebounded from a bad game against Stanford in a big, big way against Cal, and there was plenty to go around. Redd had 158 yards and a touchdown, McNeal added 115 yards on 10 carries, and USC displayed a bit of balance for the first time in a while.
Feet: Oregon State WRs Brandin Cooks/Markus Wheaton -- Talk about speed to burn. The way Cooks and Wheaton deftly manuevered the UCLA defense on Saturday, you'd think they each had four feet. Cooks had a monster day with 175 yards on six receptions, including a 75-yard touchdown, and Wheaton added nine catches for 150 yards and a score. Don't look now -- the Beavers have got some burners.
