Pittsburgh vs. Virginia Tech updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Pittsburgh vs. Virginia Tech football game
Game Recap
The Virginia Tech Hokies were the 28 to nothing winners over the Pittsburgh Panthers when they previously met last November. On Saturday? They had no such luck. Virginia Tech suffered a grim 47-14 defeat to Pitt. That's the fewest points the Hokies have scored all season.
Pitt can attribute much of their success to QB Kenny Pickett, who passed for two TDs and 404 yards on 52 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown, and WR DJ Turner, who caught 15 passes for one TD and 184 yards. One of the most thrilling moments was Turner's 64-yard TD reception in the third quarter.
Special teams collected 17 points for Pitt. K Alex Kessman delivered a perfect 4-for-4 game.
QB Hendon Hooker put forth a good effort for the losing side as he passed for two TDs and 260 yards on 22 attempts in addition to picking up 53 yards on the ground. Near the top of the highlight reel was Hooker's 55-yard TD bomb to WR Tre Turner in the second quarter.
Virginia Tech is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-5. The win makes it two in a row for the Panthers and bumps their record up to 5-4.
The Hokies will have some time to rest before their next matchup, which is against the Clemson Tigers at noon ET in two weeks at Lane Stadium/Worsham Field. Virginia Tech's scoring has been on the decline the past three games, which is obviously a trend Clemson hopes will continue. As for Pitt, they will face off against the Tigers at noon ET next Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
