Savannah State at No. 19 Oklahoma State
Kickoff: Saturday, 7 p.m. ET (Fox College Sports)
Spread: No line
Watchability: Unless you're an Oklahoma State fan or curious to see freshman QB Wes Lunt, this one probably isn't worth tuning in. Savannah State has won two games in the past two seasons.
Shining stars: Savannah State: DL Leroy Cummings led the Tigers in tackles for losses (9.5) and sacks (six) as a true freshman in 2011. Oklahoma State: If one Cowboy went unappreciated in 2011, it was RB Joseph Randle. Randle was an All-Big 12 selection, but it was the OSU passing game that caught all the headlines. With a freshman quarterback, the Cowboys could be leaning on Randle more this year and he is a darkhorse Heisman candidate.
Who could steal the show: Savannah State: In reality, this game is likely to get ugly fast and it's tough to find any budding stars on the Savannah State roster. One player who might look like he at least belongs on the field is RB Isaiah Nearor, a transfer from Cincinnati. Oklahoma State: An FCS defense that allowed more than 40 points per game last year sounds like the perfect opportunity to build the confidence of a freshman quarterback making his first start. Expect Lunt to rack up the numbers in his debut.
You going? Ranking the road trip: This is the first trip to a BCS school for Savannah State since the school joined the FCS ranks, so for Tiger fans, it might be worth making the trip to see the house that Boone Pickens built. If you're a Cowboy fan, wait for Big 12 play to start to make the trip to Stillwater -- unless you revel in blowouts.
Magic number for Oklahoma State: 3. Oklahoma State forced a NCAA-best 44 turnovers last season and averaged better than three takeaways per game. Coordinator Bill Young's defense will want to set the tone for 2012 with a good day taking the ball away.
Magic number for Savannah State: 50. If the Tigers can lose by less than 50, it would be a moral victory.
The game comes down to: Effort. If the Cowboys play with effort, they should be up by at least three touchdowns by the end of the first quarter. This game for OSU is about executing and building confidence for Lunt.
Prediction: Oklahoma State 73, Savannah State 0
