Kickoff: Saturday, 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPNU)
Spread: Arizona by 10.5
Watchability: The Wildcats transition from Mike Stoops to Rich Rodriguez marks a true shift in styles; that alone provides a reason to turn on the TV.
Shining stars: Toledo: Terrance Owens and Austin Dantin. The Rockets will split the quarterback reps, and one of them will step up. Arizona: Quarterback Matt Scott has the dual-threatedness, dual-threatishness, dual-threatability -- he’s a dual-threat -- to succeed immediately in RichRod’s system.
Who could steal the show: Toledo: Safety Jermaine Robinson is one of the best defenders in the MAC and could give Scott fits all day. Arizona: Cornerback Shaquille Richardson has a nose for the ball, but he needs to avoid penalties and take less risks. Word out of camp is he’s calmed and matured, and that could lead to big things for Arizona.
You going? Ranking the road trip: Not worth the drive to the desert, if only because of the speed traps.
Magic number for Toledo: 30. If the Rockets can generate some offense -- at least four scores -- then they’ll stand a chance.
Magic number for Arizona: 39. The last time the two teams met, two years ago, the Wildcats pummeled the Rockets by 39. Can they match it?
The game comes down to: Arizona is the superior team, and Rodriguez is an innovative offensive mind.
Prediction: Arizona 29, Toledo 17
