We're less than two months away from the start of the college football season (thank goodness) and it looks as though former Southern California quarterback Max Wittek may finally be close to finding himself a new home.
It was announced that Wittek would be transferring from USC in January, and since then he has been on a bit of a strange journey. Texas had been considered the favorite for Wittek's services, but after a few trips to Austin a report surfaced that Texas had "backed away" from offering him a scholarship. Shortly after that another report popped up saying that Wittek would not be graduating from USC until December. That meant Wittek wouldn't be eligible to play in 2014, and could have explained why Texas suddenly lost interest.
Of course, this was all back in May, and things had been quite for the last six weeks until a new report from the Honolulu Star-Advertiser saying that Wittek is now likely to end up at Hawaii. Though it might not be on scholarship.
Wittek told the paper that there's a "good possibility" that he's going to join Hawaii's football team as a walk-on. Hawaii was one of the schools that Wittek had visited back in March, and he has a good relationship with coach Norm Chow, who is friends with Wittek's quarterback mentor (why aren't there any right guard mentors, or weakside linebacker mentors?) Steve Clarkson.
If Wittek does wind up at Hawaii he will have to sit out the 2014 season before being eligible to play in 2015.
