What to Know
The Clemson Tigers have enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they must head out on the road. They will square off against the South Carolina Gamecocks at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium. Clemson has a defense that allows only 16.36 points per game, so USC's offense will have their work cut out for them.
Clemson took their contest against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons last week by a conclusive 48-27 score. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Clemson had established a 38-13 advantage. RB Kobe Pace had a stellar game for Clemson as he rushed for two TDs and 191 yards on 24 carries.
Clemson's defense was a presence as well, as it embarrassed Wake Forest's offensive line to sack the QB seven times for a total loss of 34 yards. The heavy lifting was done by DT Etinosa Reuben and DE Myles Murphy, who each racked up two sacks.
Meanwhile, the Auburn Tigers typically have all the answers at home, but last week the Gamecocks proved too difficult a challenge. USC managed a 21-17 win over Auburn. The victory came about thanks to a strong surge after the first quarter to overcome a 14 to nothing deficit. RB ZaQuandre White was the offensive standout of the matchup for USC, snatching one receiving TD.
Clemson is the favorite in this one, with an expected 11.5-point margin of victory. But bettors beware: they are only 3-6 against the spread when favored.
Clemson simply couldn't be stopped when the teams previously met two seasons ago, as they easily beat the Gamecocks on the road 38-3. Will Clemson repeat their success, or does USC have a better game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
