SMU vs. Tulsa: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAA Football game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the SMU vs. Tulsa football game
An American Athletic battle is on tap between the Tulsa Golden Hurricane and the SMU Mustangs at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. Tulsa will be strutting in after a victory while SMU will be stumbling in from a defeat.
When you finish with 215 more yards than your opponent like the Golden Hurricane did last week, a favorable outcome is almost sure to follow. They made easy work of the Temple Owls and carried off a 44-10 win. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 27 to nothing. Tulsa QB Davis Brin was slinging it as he passed for two TDs and 297 yards on 31 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown. Brin's performance made up for a slower matchup against the Tulane Green Wave two weeks ago.
Special teams collected 14 points for the Golden Hurricane. K Zack Long delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.
Meanwhile, the oddsmakers predicted a rough game for the Mustangs last week, and boy were they were right. They suffered a grim 48-14 defeat to the Cincinnati Bearcats. SMU was in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 27 to nothing. One thing holding SMU back was the mediocre play of QB Tanner Mordecai, who did not have his best game: he passed for only 66 yards on 26 attempts.
The Golden Hurricane's win brought them up to 5-6 while SMU's loss pulled them down to 8-3. Two numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: Tulsa is 240th worst in the nation in thrown interceptions, having thrown 14 on the season. The Mustangs have had an even harder time: they are stumbling into the matchup with the 196th most thrown interceptions in the nation, having thrown ten on the season. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
