South Alabama vs. Arkansas State updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the South Alabama vs. Arkansas State football game
Game Recap
The South Alabama Jaguars won the last time they met up with the Arkansas State Red Wolves, and they shouldn't regret having come to the reunion, either. The Jaguars took down Arkansas State 31-13 on Saturday. This was a must-win game for South Alabama as they bounced back from a huge upset against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks last week.
South Alabama's offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 28 points in the first half. Arkansas State countered with 7 points. South Alabama couldn't replicate their first half dominance, getting outscored after the break, but not by enough to lose the contest.
The Jaguars' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but QB Jake Bentley led the charge as he passed for four TDs and 251 yards on 39 attempts. WR Jalen Tolbert was in the mix, too, providing South Alabama with two touchdowns.
South Alabama's defense was a presence as well, as it collected three interceptions and one fumble. CB Darrell Luter Jr. picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown.
South Alabama's win brought them up to 5-3. The loss dropped Arkansas State's record to 1-7.
South Alabama will take on the Troy Trojans at 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday at Larry Blakeney Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Troy took a loss in their last matchup and are no doubt out to reverse South Alabama's good fortune. As for Arkansas State, they will face off against the Appalachian State Mountaineers at 2 p.m. ET next Saturday at Centennial Bank Stadium. Appalachian State is 3-2 after wins this season, and the Red Wolves are 0-6 after losses.
