Live scores, highlights and updates from the Southern Miss vs. Troy football game
3rd Quarter Report
Troy is on the road but looking no worse for wear. They have a bit of a cushion as they currently lead Southern Miss 28-17.
Troy entered the contest having won eight straight and they're just one quarter away from another. Will they make it nine, or will Southern Miss step up and spoil it? We'll know soon.
Preview
After two games on the road, Southern Miss is heading back home. They will take on the Troy Trojans at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. Southern Miss is expected to lose this one by 17 points, so we'll see if that gives them a bit of motivation.
Southern Miss might have drawn first blood against Mississippi State on Saturday, but it was Mississippi State who got the last laugh. Southern Miss found themselves the reluctant recipients of a 41-20 punch to the gut against Mississippi State. Southern Miss has not had much luck with Mississippi State recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Meanwhile, Troy had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.6 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Saturday. They walked away with a 31-24 victory over Louisiana.
Troy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kimani Vidal, who rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown, and Gunnar Watson, who threw for 199 yards and three touchdowns. Watson is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played.
Another reason for the win was Troy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Javon Solomon was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three sacks himself.
Mississippi State's victory bumped their season record to 5-6 while Southern Miss' loss dropped theirs to 3-8.
While only Southern Miss took care of their fans the last time they played, neither team managed to cover. Looking forward, Troy is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by 17 points. They might be worth a quick bet since they're sitting on a four game streak of covering the spread when playing on the road.
Southern Miss lost to Troy at home by a decisive 27-10 margin in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Will Southern Miss have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to find expert analysis of the match and other college football content.
