Southern Miss vs. UL Monroe: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAA Football game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Southern Miss vs. Louisiana-Monroe football game
The UL Monroe Warhawks will head out on the road to face off against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for UL Monroe and seven for Southern Miss.
UL Monroe scored first but ultimately less than Arkansas State in their matchup on Saturday. They fell 34-24 to the Red Wolves. UL Monroe didn't live up to their potential and found themselves falling short of the advantage oddsmakers thought they had coming into the game.
UL Monroe's loss came about despite a quality game from Blake Murphy, who threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns. Derek McCormick did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in three field goals.
Meanwhile, Southern Miss pushed their score all the way to 38 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 48-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of App. State.
Frank Gore Jr. put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 247 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.3 yards per carry. Gore Jr.'s longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards.
Even if they lost, Southern Miss' defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Leading the way was Jalil Clemons and his 2.5 sacks.
The losses dropped UL Monroe to 2-6 and Southern Miss to 1-7.
Not only did the two teams lose their last games, but neither team managed to cover the spread. Going forward, Southern Miss is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by two points. For those looking to play the spread, careful betting on Southern Miss: they have a less-than-stellar 2-6 record against the spread this season.
UL Monroe came up short against Southern Miss in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, falling 20-10. Can UL Monroe avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
