After constant struggles on the road, the California Golden Bears have finally found some success away from home. They took their game against the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday by a conclusive 41-11 score. The oddsmakers were on the Golden Bears' side, but they didn't give the team enough credit as the margin was unexpectedly wide.
quarterIt took a quarter to shake off the cobwebs, but after zero 1st quarter points, the California offense picked up 14 points in the second quarter. Stanford wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 14-3 heading into the break. California put the contest away in the third quarter with 13 points from the offense and zero points allowed from the defense.
California relied on the efforts of RB Marcel Dancy, who punched in two rushing touchdowns, and RB Christopher Brown Jr., who picked up 131 yards on the ground on 13 carries in addition to snatching one receiving TD. One of the most memorable plays of the matchup was Dancy's 76-yard touchdown rush in the third quarter. Dancy's sharp performance set his single-game rushing touchdown high for the season. QB Chase Garbers had a good game, too, finishing with two touchdowns.
Stanford's only offensive touchdown came from RB Austin Jones.
The win bumped California's record up to 4-6. The Cardinal's loss pushed them down to 3-8.
The Golden Bears will hit the road for the third straight week as they head to Rose Bowl at 10:30 p.m. ET next Saturday. The UCLA Bruins are coming in off of a big 62-33 win over the USC Trojans. As for Stanford, they will face off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 3 p.m. ET next Saturday at Stanford Stadium. Notre Dame is 8-1 after wins this season, and Stanford is 2-5 after losses.
