The Syracuse Orange and the South Florida Bulls will square off in the Boca Raton Bowl at FAU Stadium 8:00 p.m. ET on Thursday. Syracuse is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Syracuse has more to be thankful for after their matchup against Wake Forest back in November. Syracuse managed a 35-31 win over Wake Forest.
Syracuse's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Garrett Shrader led the charge by throwing for 173 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Syracuse also got a significant boost from LeQuint Allen, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 144 yards.
Meanwhile, South Florida gave up the first points back in November, but they didn't let that get them down. They really took it to Charlotte for the full four quarters, racking up a 48-14 win at home. The victory was just what South Florida needed coming off of a 49-21 defeat in their prior contest.
Byrum Brown had a dynamite game for South Florida, throwing for 253 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelley Joiner, who gained 104 total yards and two touchdowns.
The victory got Syracuse back to even at 6-6. As for South Florida, the victory also got them back to even at 6-6.
Syracuse is hoping to beat the odds on Thursday, as the experts think they're headed for a loss. For those looking to play the spread, take note: they are a solid 7-2-1 against the spread when expected to win.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: The Orange have been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 184.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like the Bulls struggle in that department as they've been averaging 186.2 rushing yards per game. It's looking like Thursday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
