Tennessee vs. Akron updates: Live NCAA Football game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Tennessee vs. Akron football game
Considering their sizeable disadvantage in the spread, the Akron Zips can expect to have a real challenge on their hands on Saturday. They are on the road again on Saturday and play against the Tennessee Volunteers at 7 p.m. ET Sept. 17 at Neyland Stadium. Tennessee should still be feeling good after a victory, while the Zips will be looking to regain their footing.
The evening started off rough for Akron last week, and it ended that way, too. They took a serious blow against the Michigan State Spartans, falling 52 to nothing. Akron was in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 24 to nothing.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Tennessee ultimately got the result they were hoping for last week with a 34-27 win over the Pittsburgh Panthers. The team accrued 24 points in the first half and coasted on those for the win. Tennessee's WR Cedric Tillman was one of the most active players for the team, catching nine passes for one TD and 162 yards. Tennessee's win came on a 28-yard TD pass from QB Hendon Hooker to Tillman with only 0:00 remaining in overtime.
The Volunteers' defense was a presence as well, as it got past Pitt's offensive line to sack the QB four times for a total loss of 34 yards. It was a group effort with four guys contributing.
Akron's loss took them down to 1-1 while Tennessee's win pulled them up to 2-0. Giving up four turnovers, the Zips had had trouble holding onto the ball. We'll see if Tennessee can exploit that vulnerability.
