Texas vs. Texas Tech updates: Live NCAA Football game scores, results for Friday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Texas vs. Texas Tech football game
3rd Quarter Report
Texas already has more points against Texas Tech than they managed in total against Iowa State last Saturday. After three quarters Texas' offense has really been able to impose its will, dominating Texas Tech 50-7. This matchup looks nothing like the tight 37-34 margin from Texas' win over Texas Tech in their previous head-to-head back in September of 2022.
Texas entered the matchup having won five straight and they're just one quarter away from another. Will they make it six, or will Texas Tech step up and spoil it? We'll know soon.
Preview
After two games on the road, Texas is heading back home. They will take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Texas was not the first on the board last Saturday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against Iowa State by a score of 26-16.
Texas' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quinn Ewers, who threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns. Bert Auburn did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in three field goals.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They slipped by UCF 24-23. Texas Tech was down 14-0 with 0:11 left in the first quarter but they still came back for the handy one-point victory.
Tahj Brooks continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 182 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Brooks has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Behren Morton, who threw for 256 yards and two touchdowns.
Texas' victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. As for Texas Tech, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Going forward, Texas is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by 14 points. This contest will be their tenth straight as the favorites (so far over this stretch they are 4-4-1 against the spread).
Texas couldn't quite finish off Texas Tech in their previous meeting back in September of 2022 and fell 37-34. Thankfully for Texas, Donovan Smith (who threw for 331 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check CBSSports.com after the match to find out.
