You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for the Toledo Rockets on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 49-10 win over the Norfolk State Spartans at home. The victory came about even with Toledo handicapping themselves with 125 penalty yards.
The Rockets' offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 28 points in the first half. Norfolk State wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 28-7 heading into the break. Toledo put the matchup away in the third quarter with 14 points from the offense and zero points allowed from the defense.
RB Bryant Koback and QB Dequan Finn were among the main playmakers for Toledo as the former punched in two rushing touchdowns and the latter accumulated 38 passing yards in addition to rushing for one TD and 82 yards.
No one had a standout game offensively for Norfolk State, but QB Juwan Carter led the way with one touchdown. The game pushed the Spartans down to 0-1 and pulled the Rockets up to the reverse at 1-0.
Toledo will square off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 2:30 p.m. ET next Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium. Norfolk State is on the road again next Saturday and plays against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at noon ET Sept. 11 at Truist Field.
