Troy vs. Georgia Southern updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Troy vs. Georgia Southern football game
Game Recap
The Troy Trojans stumbled on the road last week against the South Carolina Gamecocks, but they seem to have regained their footing back home. On Saturday, the Trojans narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Georgia Southern Eagles 27-24. Georgia Southern can consider this payback for the 20-13 defeat they dealt Troy the last time the teams encountered one another last November.
The matchup started off well for Troy, whose offense put up 17 first-half points. Georgia Southern wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 17-3 heading into the break. Troy almost let the game get away from them in the second half, but they had just enough oomph to take it.
Troy's RB Jamontez Woods was one of the most active players for the team, punching in one rushing touchdown. QB Gunnar Watson didn't exactly stuff the stat sheet, but finished with two touchdowns.
The Trojans' defense was a presence as well, as it got past the Eagles' offensive line to sack the quarterback five times for a total loss of 34 yards. It was a group effort with five guys contributing.
A silver lining for Georgia Southern was the play of WR Khaleb Hood, who punched in one rushing touchdown.
The win got Troy back to even at 3-3. Georgia Southern's loss pushed them down to 2-4.
Troy will take on the Texas State Bobcats at 3 p.m. ET next Saturday at Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium. The Eagles are staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the South Alabama Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. ET Oct. 14 at Hancock Whitney Stadium.
