Live scores, highlights and updates from the Tulane vs. Virginia Tech football game
3rd Quarter Report
A win for Virginia Tech would push their record over .500, and after three quarters of play they've put themselves in a good position to make it happen. They have jumped out to a 27-17 lead against Tulane.
If Virginia Tech keeps playing like this, they'll bump their record up to 7-6 in no time. On the other hand, Tulane will have to make due with an 11-3 record unless they turn things around (and fast).
Preview
The Virginia Tech Hokies and the Tulane Green Wave will square off in the Military Bowl at Jack Stephens Field at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium 2:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Virginia Tech will be strutting in after a victory while Tulane will be stumbling in from a loss.
Virginia Tech scored the most points they've had all season to find success back in November. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 55-17 victory over Virginia. The oddsmakers were on Virginia Tech's side, but they didn't give the squad enough credit as the margin was unexpectedly wide.
Virginia Tech got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kyron Drones out in front who threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per attempt. Da'Quan Felton was another key contributor, picking up 133 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Virginia Tech's defense and their six sacks. In that department, Cole Nelson was the leader with two sacks. Another playmaker for Virginia Tech has been Bhayshul Tuten, who managed to return a kickoff 94-yards to the end zone in the third quarter.
Meanwhile, Tulane unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on December 2nd. They fell 26-14 to SMU.
Despite the defeat, Tulane got a solid performance out of Yulkeith Brown, who picked up 90 receiving yards and a touchdown. Michael Pratt also helped with two touchdowns in total.
The Green Wave weren't very productive on the ground and finished the game with only 31 rushing yards. That's the fewest rushing yards they've managed all season.
The victory got Virginia Tech back to even at 6-6. As for Tulane, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-2.
