Two Florida State players were honored as ACC players of the week at their positions.
Senior DE Cornellius led the Seminoles’ shutout of Wake Forest to earn defensive lineman of the week. Carradine had 2.5 sacks and two quarterback pressures. Through three games, his 12 tackles lead a Florida State defense that has yet to allow a touchdown.
Senior RB Chris Thompson gave the Seminoles players of the week on both sides of the ball. He scored on runs of 80 and 74 yards to earn offensive back of the week honors. He finished with nine rushes for 197 yards, an average of 21.9 yards per carry. The performance capped Thompson’s comeback from breaking a bone in his back against Wake Forest last season.
Georgia Tech ran for 461 yards, 9.2 yards per rush, in a rout of Virginia, and Yellow Jackets tackle Will Jackson was recognized as offensive lineman of the week.
Duke CB Ross Cockrell is tied for the national lead in passes broken up and passes defensed. He had two breakups and two interceptions against NC Central, earning defensive back of the week.
Miami RB Duke Johnson rushed for 94 yard and two touchdowns. He added two more touchdowns on a kickoff return and a 50-yard reception to earn ACC rookie of the week.
Three other players were honored for their performances in losing efforts by their teams. Kyshoen Jarrett had a 94-yard punt return touchdown, the second-longest in Virginia Tech history, and the longest in the ACC since 1970. He garnered specialist of the week in Tech’s loss to Pittsburgh.
Nick Clancy had 24 tackles, the second-most in Boston College history, to earn linebacker of the week. Before the Eagles’ loss to Northwestern, Clancy’s previous high in a game was seven tackles.
North Carolina’s Romar Morris had 149 receiving yards and 202 all-purpose yards. The running back’s performance catching the ball earned him receiver of the week. Morris also blocked a punt in the fourth quarter.
