The Stanford Cardinal will head out on the road to face off against the USC Trojans at 10:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at United Airlines Field at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The pair come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Stanford had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Stanford walked away with a 37-24 victory over Hawaii on Friday. Stanford pushed the score to 27-10 by the end of the third, a deficit Hawaii had littlechance of recovering from.
Stanford's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. Leading the way was LB David Bailey and his three sacks.
Special teams played a big role in the game, adding 13 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of K Joshua Karty: he added nine points with three field goals, and another four kicking extra points.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led USC over Nevada in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that USC blew Nevada out of the water with a 66-14 final score. The victory made it back-to-back wins for USC.
QB Caleb Williams was on fire, as he threw for 319 yards and five touchdowns on 24 attempts. WR Michael Jackson III did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 15 receiving yards.
Stanford will need to dig deep on Saturday, as the experts think they're headed for a loss. They finished last season with a mediocre 2-10 record against the spread, so bettors beware.
Stanford came up short against USC in their previous matchup last September, falling 41-28. Can Stanford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
