USM vs. FAU updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Thursday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Southern Miss vs. Florida Atlantic football game
Through 3 Quarters
The Florida Atlantic Owls typically have all the answers at home, but the Southern Miss Golden Eagles are posing a tough problem. Sitting on a score of 38-31, Southern Miss has looked like the better team out there today, but there's still one more quarter to play.
The Golden Eagles have been relying on RB Frank Gore Jr., who has rushed for one TD and 111 yards on nine carries, and QB Trey Lowe, who has passed for two TDs and 209 yards on 19 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 46 yards. That touchdown -- a 73-yard rush in the first quarter -- was one of the highlights of the contest. Speaking of playmakers, DB Camron Harrell went all the way with a kickoff return for touchdown in the third quarter.
The Owls have been led by RB James Charles, who so far has rushed for two TDs and 68 yards on 13 carries.
This is the most points either team has accured going into the fourth quarter this season.

What to Know
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles watched the action from their couches last weekend, but are set to take to the field. Southern Miss and the Florida Atlantic Owls will face off in a Conference USA battle at 6:30 p.m. ET Thursday at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W.'
It was close but no cigar for the Golden Eagles as they fell 23-20 to the UTSA Roadrunners three weeks ago. Despite the loss, Southern Miss got a solid performance out of RB Frank Gore Jr., who snatched one receiving TD. One of the most thrilling moments was Gore Jr.'s 51-yard TD reception in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the contest between Florida Atlantic and the Georgia Southern Eagles last week was not particularly close, with Florida Atlantic falling 20-3.
Southern Miss is expected to lose this next one by 8.5. Their home turf has been no bettor's paradise, as they've failed to beat the spread in three of their six home games.
The Golden Eagles are now 2-7 while the Owls sit at 5-2. Two defensive numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: Southern Miss is stumbling into the matchup with the fifth most passing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 23 on the season. To make matters even worse for Southern Miss, Florida Atlantic comes into the game boasting the fifth fewest rushing touchdowns allowed in the nation at three.
