Utah DT Joe Kruger could cause some trouble for Washington on Saturday. Kruger has five sacks, two forced fumbles and a pick-6 this season. (US Presswire) |
Utah (4-5, 2-4 Pac-12) at Washington (5-4, 3-3 Pac-12)
Kickoff: Saturday, 10:30 p.m. ET (Pac-12 Network)
Spread: Utah by 1.5
Watchability: If you want to watch Pac-12 football on Saturday night, you have three choices -- Oregon-Cal, UCLA-Washington State, and this is the only one that doesn't scream blowout.
Shining Stars: Utah -- DT Star Lotulelei and Joe Kruger. Washington has the 10th-ranked offense in the Pac-12 and hasn't scored more than three touchdowns in any game this season against an FBS team. To put things mildly, the Huskies' offense has struggled. Kruger and Lotulelei have combined for 8.5 sacks and five forced fumbles this year. To put things mildly, they're not going to make things easy for Washington QB Keith Price. Washington -- RB Bishop Sankey. Sankey ran for a career-high 189 yards in the Huskies' win over Cal last week and if he gets anywhere close to that number on Saturday, Utah will be in trouble. Washington is 4-1 this season in games where Sankey rushes for 90 or more yards.
Who could steal the show: Utah -- QB Travis Wilson. Wilson will be making his fifth career start on Saturday and with each start he seems to be getting a lot better. The freshman's QB rating has gone from 102.7 to 112.9 to 171.3 in the last three weeks. That's probably not good news for Washington. Washington -- TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins. If Utah shuts down the Washington run, that means the Huskies may have take to the air, which could mean a big game for Seferian-Jenkins. Seferian-Jenkins had a career-high 154 yards against Cal last week and could be a tough matchup for Utah's defense.
You going? Ranking the road trip: This will be Washington's last game at CenturyLink Field before moving back to Husky Stadium next season, so we endorse going. The best part is, it's supposed to be so cold on Saturday -- upper-30s -- you probably won't need to pack any ice for your tailgate.
Magic number for Utah: 100. When Utah RB John White has reached the century mark in his career, the Utes are 11-0. When White doesn't reach 100 yards, Utah is 0-10.
Magic number for Washington: 0. That's how many times the Huskies have ever lost to Utah in school history. Washington is 7-0 all-time against the Utes, including a 31-14 win last year in Salt Lake City.
The game comes down to: Defense. What happens when two bad offenses play each other? This game. Washington and Utah are ranked No. 10 and No. 11 in the Pac-12 in offense, which means there's a good chance one or two big defensive plays could win this game.
Prediction: Washington 24, Utah 21
