Vanderbilt vs. Tennessee: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Vanderbilt vs. Tennessee football game
Game Recap
When you finish with 248 more yards than your opponent like the Tennessee Volunteers did on Saturday, a favorable outcome is almost sure to follow. They took their matchup against the Vanderbilt Commodores by a conclusive 42-17 score. This was the most points they've scored all season.
The game started off well for Tennessee, whose offense put up 28 first-half points. Vanderbilt countered with 10 points. The Tennessee defense was impenetrable in the third quarter, shutting them out and essentially clinching the contest.
The Volunteers can attribute much of their success to WR Velus Jones Jr., who caught seven passes for two TDs and 125 yards. That receiving effort made it the first game that Jones Jr. has posted more than 100 yards receiving. Tennessee's DB Bryce Thompson got in on the action, too, converting a pick in the second quarter into a touchdown.
No one had a standout game offensively for the Commodores, but they got scores from TE Ben Bresnahan and WR Cam Johnson.
Tennessee's win brought them up to 3-6. Vanderbilt's loss pushed them down to 0-9.
Tennessee will take on the Texas A&M Aggies at noon ET next Saturday at Neyland Stadium. The defensive coordinators will surely put in extra hours ahead of this matchup since these teams' offenses combined for 1,049 yards this week. As for the Commodores, they will face off against the Georgia Bulldogs at noon ET next Saturday at Sanford Stadium.
