Virginia Tech vs. Notre Dame: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Virginia Tech vs. Notre Dame football game
Game Recap
The Virginia Tech Hokies typically have all the answers at home, but on Saturday the Notre Dame Fighting Irish proved too difficult a challenge. The Fighting Irish skirted past Virginia Tech 32-29. Since Notre Dame won the last time these teams met, too, this is only more fuel for the fire driving the Hokies' future revenge.
After a totally unproductive first quarter, the Notre Dame offense stepped up its game and put 14 points on the board in the second quarter. Virginia Tech was right behind to make the score 14-13 heading into the break. The offense for Notre Dame continued to do well in the second half, scoring another 18 points to put the game away.
It was another big night for Notre Dame's RB Kyren Williams, who punched in one rushing touchdown in addition to snatching one receiving TD. The Fighting Irish also relied on K Jonathan Doerer, whose 48-yard field goal boot in the fourth quarter wound up being the difference in the contest.
No one had a standout game offensively for the Hokies, but they got scores from RB Raheem Blackshear and DB Jermaine Waller.
Notre Dame's win brought them up to 5-1. Virginia Tech's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-2.
Notre Dame will have some time to savor their victory since their next matchup is a little ways off; they will square off against the USC Trojans at Notre Dame Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET in two weeks. Unlike Notre Dame, USC will be stumbling in off of a defeat. The Hokies will be playing at home against the Pittsburgh Panthers at 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday. Pitt has averaged 52.40 points over the course of their past five games, so Virginia Tech might be in for a challenge.
