Western Kentucky vs. Marshall updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Western Kentucky vs. Marshall football game
Game Recap
Two weeks ago, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers were out to avenge their 26-23 defeat to the Marshall Thundering Herd from their previous meeting last October, but they had no such luck. WKU has to be aching after a bruising 38-14 loss to Marshall. The Hilltoppers haven't found any success against Marshall since Nov. 26 of 2016, this defeat making it four in a row.
RB Brenden Knox was the offensive standout of the contest for Marshall, rushing for three TDs and 107 yards on 15 carries. Knox has been one of Marshall's best players in each of their past three games. The Thundering Herd received some extra help from LB Tavante Beckett, whose 38-yard fumble return for touchdown in the third quarter made for one of the game's most unforgettable moments.
Western Kentucky's defeat came about despite a quality game from QB Kevaris Thomas, who passed for one TD and 148 yards on 18 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 30 yards.
The Hilltoppers' defeat pushed them down to 1-3. The win for Marshall kept them a perfect 3-0.
WKU will square off against the UAB Blazers at 1:30 p.m. ET last week at Legion Field. UAB is 1-1 after wins this year, and WKU is 1-1 after losses. The Thundering Herd are on the road again last week and play against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at 6 p.m. ET Oct. 17 at Joe Aillet Stadium. Like Marshall, Louisiana Tech is also coming into the game bolstered by a recent victory.
