Western Kentucky vs. UT Martin updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Thursday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Western Kentucky vs. UT Martin football game
Game Recap
If there were any doubts why the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers were heavy favorites Thursday, the squad quickly laid those doubts to rest. They steamrolled past the UT Martin Skyhawks 59-21 at home.
The contest started off well for WKU, whose offense put up 28 first-half points. UT Martin countered with 14 points. The Hilltoppers put the game away in the third quarter with 17 points from the offense and zero points allowed from the defense.
QB Bailey Zappe went supernova for WKU as he passed for seven TDs and 405 yards on 36 attempts. Near the top of the highlight reel was Zappe's 73-yard TD bomb to WR Daewood Davis in the first quarter. WR Jerreth Sterns also deserves a shout-out for his two TDs.
A silver lining for UT Martin was the play of QB Keon Howard, who passed for one TD and 190 yards on 47 attempts in addition to rushing for two TDs and 36 yards. The matchup brought WKU to 1-0 and dropped the Skyhawks to a mirror-image 0-1.
The Hilltoppers will take on the Army West Point Black Knights at 11:30 a.m. ET next week at Blaik Field at Michie Stadium. UT Martin will look to defend their home turf next week against the Samford Bulldogs at 7 p.m. ET.
