Western Michigan vs. Northern Illinois updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Western Michigan vs. Northern Illinois football game
Game Recap
After losing to the Northern Illinois Huskies the last time they met, the Western Michigan Broncos decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Broncos came out on top in a nail-biter against NIU Saturday, sneaking past 30-27. The overall outcome was to be expected, but NIU made it more of a contest than the oddsmakers had predicted.
WMU got their victory on the backs of several key players, and it was WR D'Wayne Eskridge out in front catching seven passes for 134 yards. QB Kaleb Eleby had a good game, too, finishing with two touchdowns.
WMU's defense was a presence as well, as it got past NIU's offensive line to sack the quarterback five times for a total loss of 15 yards. Leading the way was DT Ralph Holley and his two sacks. Holley now has three sacks this season.
Despite the loss, the Huskies had strong showings from WR Tyrice Richie, who caught 12 passes for one TD and 131 yards, and QB Ross Bowers, who passed for three TDs and 230 yards on 36 attempts.
The matchup pushed NIU down to 0-4 and pulled the Broncos up to the reverse at 4-0.
WMU will be hunkering down at home again for their game against the Eastern Michigan Eagles at 2 p.m. ET Dec. 5 at Waldo Stadium. WMU has yet to lose; EMU, on the other hand, is desperate for their first win. As for NIU, they will go up against the Toledo Rockets at noon ET next week at Brigham Field at Huskie Stadium. Toledo lost a close one recently, falling 27-24 to the Ball State Cardinals Saturday.
