HOUSTON (AP) Bailey Zappe threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns as Houston Baptist opened the season with a 49-7 win over Division II Southwest Baptist on Saturday night.
Dreshawn Minnieweather broke for a 42-yard score in the first quarter before the teams endured a weather delay that lasted over two hours. The Huskies got right back to it after the delay, scoring 21 more points in the first half. Minnieweather finished with 96 yards on 11 carries.
Zappe connected with nine Husky receivers with LaDarius Dickens hauling in three for 50 yards and one score. Nick Sexton grabbed six for 48 yards.
The HBU defense had a fruitful night picking off four passes and gathering in a fumble. Raphael Lewis, Kyle Bowling, Langston Tunson and Patrick Wolfe all came away with an interception.
Dylan Mountain threw for 66 yards and rushed for another 46 for Southwest Baptist.
