Redskins' De'Veon Smith: Secures deal with Redskins
Smith signed a contract with the Redskins on Monday, Jake Kring-Schreifels of the team's official site reports.
Smith's signing was overshadowed by Adrian Peterson inking a one-year deal with Washington as well. Smith, who had zero rushes and three catches for 27 yards in five games for the Dolphins in 2017, was brought in as preseason depth but is a long shot to make the team.

De'Veon Smith: Non-tendered by Dolphins
Smith was not tendered by the Dolphins and has become an unrestricted free agent, Alain Poupart of the team's official site reports.
Smith went undrafted out of Michigan in 2017 and was on and off with the Dolphins throughout his rookie season, getting waived and subsequently re-signed twice before season's end. He ultimately finished the year having appeared in five games but never received a rushing attempt in his limited offensive action. Just 23 years old, Smith has youth on his side and should be able to land another contract this offseason with a team in need of running back depth.

Dolphins' De'Veon Smith: Totals 27 yards from scrimmage
Smith had three receptions for 27 yards in five games for the Dolphins in 2017.
Smith was signed to Miami's 53-man roster in late November and did not register a carry on the season. All three receptions came in the Dolphins' Week 17 loss to the Bills, allowing the 23-year-old to finish his rookie season on a high note. Smith is under contract with Miami through next season, but will likely need to make quite an impression in training camp to garner consideration for a potential offensive role.

Dolphins' De'Veon Smith: Promoted to active roster
The Dolphins promoted Smith from their practice squad to the active roster Wednesday.
Smith's addition seemed inevitable after the Dolphins' co-starting running back, Damien Williams, dislocated his shoulder in Sunday's loss to the Patriots, while third-string back Senorise Perry exited with a concussion. It's looking like the Dolphins will be without both players for the Week 13 matchup with the Broncos, so Smith could be called upon to fill the top backup role behind Kenyan Drake, the only other healthy back on the roster. It's expected that Drake will handle a three-down workload during the contest, so Smith may only be summoned on offense when Drake requires a breather.

De'Veon Smith: Could be promoted to Dolphins' roster
Smith could be promoted from the Dolphins' practice squad to the 53-man roster this week, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports.
Damien Williams (shoulder) and Senorise Perry (concussion) were injured during Sunday's 35-17 loss to the Patriots, leaving Kenyan Drake as the Dolphins' only healthy running back. With Williams expected to miss at least one game, Smith could get a call to the active roster for the second time this season ahead of Sunday's game against the Broncos. He's an undrafted rookie out of the University of Michigan, offering size and power without the speed or pass-catching skills to match. A shaky fit for Miami's spread offense, Smith shouldn't be much of a threat to Drake's workload.

De'Veon Smith: Lands on Dolphins' practice squad
The Dolphins signed Smith to their practice squad Monday, Omar Kelly of The Sun Sentinel reports.
Smith, an undrafted free agent, was unable to make it through final cuts Saturday. However, he impressed enough in camp to earn a spot with the team's practice unit. Barring injuries at running back on the 53-man roster, the Michigan product will presumably spend the season there.

Dolphins' De'Veon Smith: Activated from PUP list
Smith (undisclosed) was activated from the physically unable to perform list Wednesday.
Smith signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent, so he certainly has some work to do in training camp in order to make the final roster. Thus, his activation from the PUP list was necessary if he hopes to obtain that goal. The running back is currently pretty far down on the depth chart but will attempt to turn some heads as training camp progresses.

Dolphins' De'Veon Smith: Placed on PUP
Smith (undisclosed) was placed on the PUP by Miami on Thursday, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.
Smith was signed by Miami after being passed over during the 2017 NFL Draft. He is a long shot at best to make the team and his odds will get longer if he misses significant time during training camp.

Dolphins' De'Veon Smith: Signs contract with Dolphins
Smith signed a contract with the Dolphins, WKBN.com reports.
Smith wasn't picked during the 2017 NFL Draft, but the Dolphins are going to give him a shot as an undrafted free agent after signing him to a contract. In his senior campaign with Michigan, Smith carried the ball 180 times for 846 yards and 10 touchdowns. While he could provide depth as a big, bruising back that can fight through tackles, his overall speed may hurt his chances of making the final roster.
