Vosean Joseph: Cut by Buffalo
Joseph was let go Friday, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.
The second-year linebacker was reportedly having a good summer, but it wasn't enough for him to earn a spot on a deep and talented Buffalo defense. It is likely the team will add Joseph to its practice squad if no one else picks him up.

Bills' Vosean Joseph: Important second year
Joseph, who missed his entire rookie season due to a shoulder injury, has a chance to provide key depth for the Bills in 2020, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports. "We have high hopes for Vosean," defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier said. "We drafted him with this in mind, that his first year would kind of a be a redshirt-type year and it turned out to be that way because of his injury."
Besides missing last season, Joseph also left the University of Florida a year early, so he's a project and still has some catching up to do. However, as deep as the Bills are, there's room on the roster for versatile depth linebackers, and Joseph fits that role as he's a fast, athletic 230-pounder who's presumably healthy again. The top three spots are sealed with Tremaine Edmunds, Matt Milano and A.J. Klein, but there's plenty of opportunity for someone like Joseph to get time on the field.

Bills' Vosean Joseph: Lands on IR
The Bills placed Joseph on injured reserve Saturday due to a shoulder injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
It is unclear what injury the Bills' rookie fifth-round pick is dealing with, but he will now spend the season recovering unless both he and the team come to terms on an injury settlement. He was looking to earn a role providing depth at strong-side linebacker prior to the injury.

Bills' Vosean Joseph: Buffalo adds in fifth round
The Bills selected Joseph in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 147th overall.
Joseph (6-foot-1, 228 pounds) is an undersized and raw linebacker prospect, but one who's shown interesting upside indicators to this point. A hamstring injury pretty much wrecked his pre-draft process, resulting in him posting pro day numbers that just don't really match his profile (28-inch vertical, 106-inch broad jump, 12.39 agility score), so there's unfortunately no hard data on his athleticism, though it generally appears a plus. Joseph is otherwise interesting because he earned a leading role on a strong Florida defense at a young age -- he only turned 21 in December but finished last year with 93 tackles (nine for loss) and four sacks. He won't be rushed onto the field given Buffalo's already strong linebacker rotation of Tremaine Edmunds, Matt Milano and Lorenzo Alexander.
