Draft Scouting Report
Rating: 70.26 (Chance to start)
Pro Comparison: Case Keenum
Strengths:
Eleby set career highs in touchdowns (23) in '21 and he shows off a good arm and a quick release. The ball gets out quickly and accurately on short and intermediate throws, and he's consistently accurate with quick throws when his feet are not perfectly set. Does a good job of using his eyes to move defensive backs, and can throw with anticipation. He also throws a nice deep ball that routinely hits his target in stride and maximizes yards-after-the-catch potential.
Weaknesses:
He struggles with turnovers, either forcing balls downfield when he shouldn't or holding the ball too long -- and too loosely -- in the pocket, leading to strip sacks. His accuracy suffers when on the move, even on throws he should make consistently. He's also not a runner; he can move inside the pocket to buy time but he's a more traditional pocket passer than runner.
Accolades:
- 2021: Second-team All-MAC
- 2020: First in FBS in yards per pass attempt (17.2) and third in passing efficiency
