Alcantara signed with the Nippon-Ham Fighters on Friday, Sung Min Kim of The Athletic reports.
Alcantara has not logged a plate appearance in the majors since 2017, though he's spent time in the minors as a member of the Mets, Angels and Giants organizations since. He's managed only a 49 wRC+ across 459 plate appearances at the big-league level, making it likely that he wouldn't have progressed past serving as organizational depth for any MLB club. On the other hand, he should have a better chance to serve a significant role with the Fighters in 2022.
