Athletics starting pitcher Sonny Gray was released from the hospital Wednesday after he was admitted Monday evening due to a severe case of bacterial gastroenteritis, according to MLB.com.

Gray is expected to be back in the Oakland clubhouse Thursday. Although, manager Bob Melvin isn't sure yet if Gray will make his next scheduled start Sunday against the Mariners.

"He's getting much better, no fever," A's team physician Allan Pont said. "He's rounding into shape."

Chris Bassitt would start in Gray's absence again, if he can't start Sunday.
