Pena (knee) isn't starting Friday against the Nationals.
Pena was removed from Thursday's game against the Twins due to right knee discomfort, and he was expected to be out of the lineup for Friday's series opener in Washington. It's not yet clear whether the 24-year-old will require a stint on the injured list, but Aledmys Diaz will start at shortstop and bat seventh Friday.
