The Athletics designated Thomas for assignment Saturday.
The move makes room on the 40-man roster for Ben Bowden, who was recalled by the A's on Saturday. Thomas was acquired by the Athletics on Thursday, two days after being waived by Atlanta. He's spent the majority of the season in Triple-A, where he has a 1.98 ERA and 0.92 WHIP over 27.1 innings.
