Kurtz (thumb) is currently participating only in range of motion and strengthening exercises, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Kurtz was placed on the injured list just before the All-Star break due to a right thumb capsule sprain. The Athletics should have a better sense of when Kurtz would return from the IL once he is cleared to participate in baseball activities. In the meantime, Tommy White and Jonah Heim will continue to see more work at first base while Kurtz is sidelined.
