Murphy is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Padres.
Murphy started three of four games during a series against the Diamondbacks this week, going 3-for-11 with one walk, one home run and three RBI. He'll begin Friday's contest in the dugout while Travis d'Arnaud starts behind the plate and bats eighth against Padres knuckleballer Matt Waldron.
