Boesch announced Tuesday that he has retired from professional baseball, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
The 31-year-old wasn't able to pick up a spring-training invite from any team after he batted just .221/.266/.345 over 158 plate appearances with Triple-A Pawtucket in the Red Sox organization last season. Prior to that, Boesch had been a respectable platoon outfielder in the big leagues in stints with the Tigers, Yankees, Angels and Reds. Over parts of six seasons in the majors, Boesch hit .250 and amassed 48 homers, good for a career wRC+ of 89.
