The Marlins released Smith on Thursday.
Smith predictably cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and is now free to sign on with a new organization. The right-hander posted a 4.25 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB over 29.2 innings for the Marlins.
