Peguero signed a minor league contract with the Cardinals on Friday that included an invitation to spring training, Jennifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
Peguero spent 2015 split between the Rangers and Red Sox organization, being designated for assignment by both of them at some point during the year. He hasn't spent much time in the majors, but during his short times with Texas and Boston, he batted a combined .187. That being said, the outfielder relies more on his power numbers to provide value, which he did show by producing a .711 OPS with four home runs in the majors last season. The Cardinals' outfield is pretty well set, but Peguero could provide some pop off the bench if he manages to make the big league roster.
