The Cardinals designated Hampson for assignment Monday.
Hampson was claimed off waivers from the Reds in late June but received only five starts and 35 plate appearances during his time in St. Louis. He'll now go through the waivers process again after losing his spot on the Cardinals' 40-man roster.
