The Cardinals did not have any takers for Gallegos on the trade market and he will now be placed on waivers Wednesday, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Gallegos wasn't traded prior to Tuesday's trade deadline, so the other 29 MLB teams will have an opportunity to claim him off waivers. The right-hander has produced an inflated 6.53 ERA and 1.65 WHIP with 21 strikeouts over 20.2 innings in 21 appearances with the Cardinals this season. If Gallegos goes unclaimed, he'll likely elect free agency over reporting to Triple-A Memphis.
