McAllister signed a minor-league contract Tuesday with the Cardinals, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
The 34-year-old right-hander spent the 2021 campaign in the Phillies organization, finishing the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and giving up five earned runs on 12 hits and six walks in 8.2 innings with the affiliate. Before that, McAllister spent parts of eight seasons in the majors with Cleveland and Detroit, though he hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2018. Unless he turns heads at the Cardinals' big-league camp, he'll most likely be headed to Triple-A Memphis once spring training ends.
