Rivas was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
Rivas earned an Opening Day roster spot but didn't have a path to regular at-bats, going 2-for-4 at the plate in limited action. He'll play regularly in the minors as he waits for his next chance. Mark Leiter's contract was selected in a corresponding move.
