Brewer (hand) began a rehab assignment Saturday at Triple-A Iowa and struck out one batter over a perfect inning.
After tossing 17 pitches in a game at the Cubs' complex in Arizona on Tuesday, Brewer got his rehab assignment formally underway over the weekend. The 31-year-old has been on the injured list since July 7 due to a fractured left hand, so he'll likely need at least a couple more outings in the minors to get back up to speed before the Cubs activate him.
