Maples cleared waivers Tuesday and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa, Russell Dorsey of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Maples owns a 2.59 ERA in 31.1 innings this season, but his 18.0 percent walk rate evidently scared off any potential suitors. He'll remain in an organizational depth role for the Cubs.
