The Cubs acquired Paredes from the Rays on Sunday in exchange for third baseman Christopher Morel and right-handers Hunter Bigge and Ty Johnson, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

Tampa Bay continues to move key parts ahead of Tuesday's deadline, with Paredes joining Randy Arozarena, Zach Eflin, Jason Adam and Aaron Civale as major departures via trade. The Cubs were thought to be deadline buyers, but Paredes isn't a rental player, as he comes with three years of team control after 2024. He has a 245/.357/.435 slash line with 16 home runs and 55 RBI through 101 games this season and should take over the starting job at third base in Chicago.
