The Cubs signed Hicks on Jan. 31 to a minor-league contract.
Hicks' deal presumably includes an invitation to big-league spring training, where he'll be competing for a spot on the Cubs' Opening Day roster as a reserve catcher. The 32-year-old backstop saw action in 10 big-league games for the Rangers in 2021, slashing .258/.258/.677 with four home runs across 31 plate appearances.
