For just the second time in 107 games this season, Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt was not in the starting lineup Thursday at Washington. Jarrod Saltalamacchia started at first base in Goldschmidt's absence.
Goldschmidt snapped a 0-for-15 slump to start August with a three-hit performance Wednesday against the Nationals. He has a .339/.453/.580/1.033 slash line through 106 games.
