Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed Monday that Burnes (elbow/shoulder) will return from the 60-day injured list to start Tuesday's game versus the Royals in Kansas City, Alex D'Agostino of SI.com reports.
Burnes will be making his season debut for the Diamondbacks, after his return from June 2025 Tommy John surgery was delayed when he sustained a teres major strain in June. The right-hander threw 17 pitches over two scoreless innings in his lone rehab start and then appeared in a bridge game last week to get further stretched out. Per MLB.com, Burnes tossed three innings and 43 pitches in the bridge game and then threw seven more pitches out of the bullpen, so he could be capped at around 60-to-70 pitches against Kansas City.
