Ahmed went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 6-2 win over Philadelphia.

Ahmed was part of a five-run uprising in the seventh inning to break open a close game. Moments like these have been few for the 31-year-old shortstop, who at his peak was batting .238 in early June. He currently sits at .226 with a .624 OPS. Ahmed could lose some starts over the final weeks to Josh Rojas, but the club doesn't have an heir apparent ready to take over at shortstop. Manager Torey Lovullo will want to give Rojas ample at-bats the rest of the way, but he can play multiple positions and will not need to play short in order to get those plate appearances.
